Supreme Court says TPS recipients who arrived illegally have no right to green card
The Supreme Court on Monday dealt a setback to hundreds of thousands of immigrants who have so-called temporary protected status, ruling they can’t have a green card if they entered the country illegally.
In a 9-0 decision, the justices said federal law protects these immigrants from deportation and it allows them to obtain a work permit, but it does not give them a right to lawful permanent status unless they are here “pursuant to a lawful admission.”

HB 1532 Teaching Racial & Universal Equality (TRUE) Act aimed at curtailing the divisive nature of concepts that have become known as “critical race theory.”
“Our legislation makes it clear that no PA school district, public postsecondary institution, or state or local government entity shall teach that any race or sex is superior to another, that any individual based on their race or sex is inherently racist or sexist, or that any individual should receive favorable treatment or be discriminated against based on their race or sex,” Gleim said.

Georgia GOP passes resolution to censure Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger
The Georgia Republican Party passed the resolution to censure the state official on Saturday.
The Georgia Secretary of State “failed to perform his duties in accordance with the laws and Constitution of the State of Georgia, and Republican Party values," according to a version of the resolution posted on Twitter by Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Greg Bluestein.
The resolution cited Raffensperger for "Entering into the Compromise Settlement Agreement and Release which changed Georgia's absentee voting procedures outside the Constitutionally prescribed format set forth in Georgia law." The resolution said that Raffensperger had undermined election security by permitting "mass mailings of absentee applications by his office and third parties which created opportunities for fraud and overwhelmed election offices; rendering accurate signature matching nearly impossible; allowing ballot drop boxes without proper chain of custody; and ignoring sworn affidavits and disregarding evidence of voter fraud.”

Chinese military scientist 'filed a patent for a COVID-19 vaccine BEFORE the virus was declared a global pandemic and worked closely with 'bat woman' at Wuhan institute'
A Chinese military scientist with ties to the United States reportedly filed a patent for a COVID-19 vaccine well before the disease was declared a global pandemic.
Yusen Zhou, who worked for the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), lodged the paperwork on behalf of the Chinese political party on February 24 2020, according to The Australian newspaper.
That date was just five weeks after China first confirmed human transmission of the coronavirus.
Zhou is also said to have 'worked closely' with scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), including Shi Zhengli - the deputy director of the lab who is famous for her research on coronavirus in bats.
Scientist Yusen Zhou reportedly filed a patent for a COVID-19 vaccine on behalf of China's People’s Liberation Army on February 24 2020
China had only declared human transmission of the virus five weeks prior
News that Zhou filed a patent for a vaccine so quickly suggests Chinese officials may have known about the virus much earlier than they admitted
Zhou is also said to have worked closely with the deputy director of the Wuhan Institute of Virology
Some scientists have theorized that the virus was created inside that lab before it inadvertently leaked out
Zhou died in mysterious circumstances in May 2020 - less than three months after filing the patent

Supreme Court says TPS recipients who arrived illegally have no right to green card
Supreme Court in Washington
WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Monday dealt a setback to hundreds of thousands of immigrants who have so-called temporary protected status, ruling they can’t have a green card if they entered the country illegally.
In a 9-0 decision, the justices said federal law protects these immigrants from deportation and it allows them to obtain a work permit, but it does not give them a right to lawful permanent status unless they are here “pursuant to a lawful admission.”
That means TPS recipients who entered the county legally as students or tourists, and stayed under TPS may obtain a green card, said Jusice Elena Kagan. But the same is not true of those who entered illegally.
“Because a grant of TPS does not come with a ticket of admission,” she wrote in Sanchez vs. Mayorkas, “it does not eliminate the disqualifying effect of an unlawful entry.”
Temporary protected status has been extended to about 320,000 immigrants from El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua and Sudan.
But lower courts had been divided over whether these migrants, many of whom have lived here for decades, may apply for and receive lawful permanent status. Four years ago, the 9th Circuit Court in California ruled that TPS recipients were eligible for green cards even if they entered the country illegally.
The case decided by the Supreme Court began when Jose Sanchez and his wife, Sonia Gonzalez, sought green cards. They arrived from El Salvador in the late 1990s, established lives and careers in New Jersey and had four sons. But they were not lawfully admitted.
Kagan said Congress is considering legislation that would allow such TPS recipients to obtain lawful permanent resident status, but only Congress, not the court, can change the law in this respect.
“Sanchez was not lawfully admitted, and his TPS does not alter that fact,” she wrote. “He therefore cannot become a permanent resident of this country.”

California County COVID-19 Death Toll Lowered by 400 After Counting Method Change
BY GQ PAN June 6, 2021 Updated: June 7, 2021
The number of COVID-19 deaths in Alameda County, California, fell by about 25 percent after health officials changed their methodology for total mortality count, removing deaths that weren’t a “direct result” of the disease or “in whom death caused by COVID-19 could not be ruled out.”
The county’s COVID-19 dashboard, following an update on June 4 to reflect the total number of COVID-19 deaths using the state’s death-reporting definition, shows that 1,223 deaths were caused by the CCP virus, 411 fewer than it previously reported.
“Alameda County previously included any person who died while infected with the virus in the total COVID-19 deaths for the County,” the county’s public health department said in a statement (pdf). For example, someone who tested positive for the virus before dying in a car accident would still have been counted toward the COVID-19 death toll.
“Aligning with the State’s definition will require Alameda County to report as COVID-19 deaths only those people who died as a direct result of COVID-19, with COVID-19 as a contributing cause of death, or in whom death caused by COVID-19 could not be ruled out,” the health officials said, noting that their system of reporting COVID-19 deaths on the dashboard and to the state was implemented early in the pandemic, before the state established guidelines for how deaths should be classified.
Alameda County Health Officer Dr. Nicholas Moss told The Mercury News that his department was aware of the inconsistency between the county and state’s numbers, but it had to put off the change because of a major surge in infections during the winter.
“We just weren’t able to move as quickly on this as we would’ve liked, but we felt it was important and sometimes better late than never,” he said.
Moss said some people may use the revision to argue that the pandemic isn’t as severe as it’s made out to be, an idea he strongly disputes.
“There are going to be people who make hay out of it and use it to question things about the pandemic, but it’s irrefutable, the severity of the pandemic,” he told The Mercury News. “I think anyone who would use this to make the argument that this is somehow overblown is really turning a blind eye to some of the simple truths of the pandemic.”
As of June 6, California has 3,689,994 confirmed cases of COVID-19, resulting in 62,470 deaths, according to the state’s health department. In the United States, more than 33 million cases have been confirmed, and there have been more than 600,000 reported deaths.
