DOJ Top National Security Official Quits Over Trump-Era Records Seizure From Suspected Democrat Leakers

BY TYLER DURDEN MONDAY, JUN 14, 2021 - 12:10 PM

The Justice Department's top national security official, John Demers, is resigning from his position following revelations that the department, under Trump, seized records from Democrats and members of the media suspected of engaging in numerous leaks of sensitive information designed to harm President Trump and his administration.

Why it matters: At Garland's direction, the Justice Department's inspector general has opened an investigation into the Trump-era DOJ's use of secret subpoenas to obtain data belonging to House Democrats.

The big picture: At least a dozen people linked to the House Intelligence Committee — including Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), both fierce critics of former President Trump — had records seized between 2017 and early 2018 as part of a leak investigation.

  • Democrats in Congress have launched their own investigations and demanded that former Attorney Generals Bill Barr and Jeff Sessions testify.

  • The inspector general will also review the Justice Department's secret seizure of phone records of journalists working for major media companies that reported on the Russia investigation, including CNN, the New York Times and the Washington Post.

What they're saying: Garland said in a statement that in addition to the inspector general investigation, Monaco is "already working on surfacing potentially problematic matters" related to the subpoenas that deserve "high level review."

"There are important questions that must be resolved in connection with an effort by the department to obtain records related to Members of Congress and Congressional staff," said Garland, adding "If at any time as the investigation proceeds action related to the matter in question is warranted, I will not hesitate to move swiftly."

House Republicans Move to Censure Ilhan Omar and the ‘Squad’ for ‘Defending Foreign Terrorist Organizations’

By Dillon Burroughs, The Western Journal Published June 14, 2021 at 11:02am

House Republicans are introducing a resolution to censure Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar and her fellow “squad” members over comments equating Israel with the terrorist organization Hamas.

Republican Reps. Michael Waltz of Florida, Jim Banks of Indiana and Claudia Tenney of New York are introducing the resolution to censure Omar.

The resolution also claimed Omar and Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan have made accusations that “publicly support the actions of a recognized terrorist organization.”

The resolution accused the four Democrats of “defending foreign terrorist organizations and inciting anti-Semitic attacks across the United States.”

The resolution is unlikely to pass in the Democrat-controlled House. However, the resolution highlights recent actions by Omar and “squad” members that have led to growing concern among both GOP and Democratic legislators.

Republicans Criticize Biden For Poor Performance At G7

OAN Newsroom UPDATED 6:57 AM PT – Monday, June 14, 2021

Republicans are knocking Joe Biden for failing to defend U.S. national interests at the G7 summit. It began with former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who said in an interview Sunday, Biden’s claims that “America is back” is bringing back the Obama days when America was weak. He then criticized Biden for shutting down the Keystone XL Pipeline while allowing Russia to finish construction of Nord Stream 2. Pompeo stressed. Biden must focus on what matters most to America not other countries.

The G7 unveiled a plan to crackdown on the use of coal, oil and cars as part of the so-called “Great Reset.” In a statement after the G7 summit Sunday, the nations said reaching zero carbon emissions is their key economic goal. G7 leaders embraced the far-left talking points, touting what they called the “Green Industrial Revolution.”

“We need to have some bigger commitments on climate finance, on phasing out coal, on low-carbon vehicles of all kind, including EVs (electric vehicles),” stated U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson. “Including making commitments on protecting nature and biodiversity, which is integral to our struggle against climate change.”

As a result, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) lambasted Joe Biden for being “passive” with world leaders. During an interview Sunday, the Republican lawmaker criticized Biden for failing to condemn China over its role in allegedly creating and spreading COVID-19. The governor added, Biden’s energy agenda is hurting middle America.

“I think that President Biden is someone that’s much more passive on the world stage, not nearly as assertive as somebody like Donald Trump was,” he stated. “I think is energy level is obviously much lower…I think our adversaries are watching that.”

DeSantis stressed that Biden’s performance at the G7 summit played well into the hands of European elites, all at the expense of American households.

Monday Off To Explosive Start In Illinois, Russia

BY TYLER DURDEN MONDAY, JUN 14, 2021 - 11:36 AM

An Illinois chemical plant is on fire Monday morning as a thick black column of smoke (possibly emitting dangerous chemicals into the atmosphere) prompted local authorities to evacuate residents within a one-mile radius of the facility.

Chemtool, a manufacturer of fluids, lubricants, and grease, erupted in flames around 0700 local time Monday. Multiple fire departments were called to 1165 Prairie Hill Road in Rockton, Illinois, for reports of smoke coming from the plant.

Meanwhile in Russia, 21 people were reportedly injured when a Novosibirsk gas station exploded.

Biden Reveals Why He Won’t Hold a Joint Press Conference With Putin

BY JACK PHILLIPS June 13, 2021 Updated: June 13, 2021

President Joe Biden revealed on June 13 why he decided to avoid a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Switzerland next week.

“I always found, and I don’t mean to suggest the press should not know, but this is not a contest about who can do better in front of a press conference or try to embarrass each other,” Biden told reporters at a press conference at the Cornwall Airport Newquay in England.

“It’s about making myself very clear what the conditions are to get a better relationship are with Russia.”

In 2018, when President Donald Trump met with Putin in person and held a joint news conference, corporate media outlets launched attacks against Trump and suggested the joint appearance meant the two had a cozy relationship. It came amid then-special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into whether Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia during the 2016 election. Mueller, after a 22-month investigation, ultimately turned up “insufficient evidence” to support the allegations.

“I think the best way to deal with this is for he and I to meet, he and I to have our discussion. I know you don’t doubt that I’ll be very straightforward with him about our concerns, and I will make clear my view of how that meeting turned out and he’ll make clear from his perspective how it turned out,” Biden said.

Biden then seemed to make reference to the possibility that the meeting would trigger rampant speculation from the press.

“I don’t want to get into being diverted by, did they shake hands, who talked the most, and the rest,” he said.

During the Group of Seven (G-7) summit on June 13, the president said he would raise concerns during his meeting with Putin.

“We are not looking for conflict. We are looking to resolve those actions which we think are inconsistent with international norms, number one,” Biden said. “Number two, where we can work together. We may be able to do that in terms of some strategic doctrine that may be able to be worked together. We’re ready to do it.”

When asked about whether he believes that U.S.–Russia relations are at a low point—something Putin had said in recent days—Biden agreed.

“I think he’s right, it’s at a low point,” he said.

“It depends on how he responds to acting consistent with international norms, which in many cases he has not.”

But Biden said the poor relationship was the fault of Russia, and again alleged that Moscow engaged in malign behavior during U.S. elections, as well as cyberattacks against American infrastructure and industries. Biden also claimed, without providing details, that Putin was directly responsible for an unspecified cyberattack.

“I checked it out. I had access to all the intelligence. He was engaged in those activities—I can respond to that,” Biden told reporters on June 13. “This is not a contest about who can do better in a press conference, embarrass each other. It’s about making myself very clear what the conditions of our relationship are.”

The White House placed new sanctions on Russia following the sweeping SolarWinds breach and for alleged interference during the 2020 election. The FBI said that Russia-based groups were behind the SolarWinds cyberattack, which affected several federal agencies.

Biden said in a March interview with ABC News that he agreed with the claim that Putin is “a killer,” which prompted criticism from Russian officials. Putin in an interview with NBC last week brushed off the comments.

Putin, according to a Russian-to-English translation, attempted to tie Biden’s remarks in March to “some deep things in Hollywood” and “macho behavior” that can be “treated as cinematic.”

“So, as far as harsh rhetoric, I think that this is an expression of overall U.S. culture,” Putin said. “But that is part of U.S. political culture, where it’s considered normal. By the way, not here [in Russia]. … It is not considered normal here.”

The Department of Defense authorized $150 million in defense aid to Ukraine on June 11, amid renewed tensions between Kyiv and Moscow over the Donbas region.

Earlier this year, there were large military movements of Russian troops and armor toward the eastern Ukraine border and into Crimea, sparking fears of a wider war, although in April the Kremlin signaled that it would attempt to deescalate tensions by withdrawing some of its forces.

Judge Dismisses Vaccine Mandate Lawsuit by Staff of Houston Hospital

BY IVAN PENTCHOUKOV AND ZACHARY STIEBER June 13, 2021 Updated: June 13, 2021

A federal judge in Texas on June 12 dismissed a lawsuit brought by 117 Houston Methodist hospital employees who sought to block the hospital system’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

In a four-page opinion, U.S. District Judge Lynn Hughes wrote that firing the employees as a result of their refusal to take the COVID-19 shots wouldn’t amount to wrongful termination. Under Texas law, an employee is considered to have been wrongfully terminated if fired solely for refusing to perform an illegal act.

COVID-19 is the disease caused by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus.

Hughes, a Reagan appointee, also rejected several claims from the plaintiffs under federal law, including an assertion that the employees are being forced to participate in a human trial for the vaccines since the shots are only being allowed under an emergency use authorization. The hospital, the judge wrote, isn’t participating in a human trial for the vaccines.

“Bridges says that she is being forced to be injected with the vaccine or be fired. This is not coercion. Methodist is trying to do their business of saving lives without giving them the COVID-19 virus,” Hughes said, referring to Jennifer Bridges, the lead plaintiff. “Bridges can freely choose to accept or refuse a COVID-19 vaccine; however, if she refuses, she will simply need to work somewhere else.

“If a worker refuses an assignment, changed office, earlier start time, or other directive, he may be properly fired. Every employment includes limits on the worker’s behavior in exchange for his remuneration. This is all part of the bargain.”

In a statement on the ruling, Marc Boom, president and CEO of Houston Methodist, told news outlets, “We can now put this behind us and continue our focus on unparalleled safety, quality, service, and innovation.

“Our employees and physicians made their decisions for our patients, who are always at the center of everything we do,” Boom said. “They have fulfilled their sacred obligation as health care workers, and we couldn’t ask for a more dedicated, caring, and talented team.”

Jared Woodfill, the lawyer representing plaintiffs in the suit, told The Epoch Times in a recent interview that he planned to file an appeal if Hughes dismissed the case.

“We’re taking it all the way Supreme Court,” he said.

Houston Methodist announced the vaccination mandate for more than 25,000 of its employees on April 1. By June 8, 24,947 were fully vaccinated. But 178 who either chose not to get a vaccine or who weren’t fully vaccinated were suspended for 14 days without pay.

Boom wrote at the time that the workers “have decided not to put their patients first,” according to an internal memo obtained by The Epoch Times. The suspended workers would be fired if they didn’t get fully vaccinated by the end of the suspension period.

The hospital allowed some employees to forgo vaccination for religious reasons or medical concerns; 285 employees received a medical or religious exemption, while 332 were granted deferrals for pregnancy or other reasons.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said recently that businesses can require employees to get a vaccine without violating federal laws but that employers must provide “reasonable accommodations” for workers who can’t or won’t get vaccinated due to religious reasons, pregnancy, or a disability.

Over 100 employees from the system filed the lawsuit last month, asserting that officials were forcing employees “to be human ‘guinea pigs’ as a condition for continued employment.”

Bob Nevens, a former Houston Methodist employee who is one of the plaintiffs, told The Epoch Times in an email that he was terminated after asking to work from home or keep social distancing and wearing a mask in lieu of getting a vaccine.

“I was a 10-year highly decorated employee who was very well respected until I made a decision to wait until these vaccines complete their clinical trials,” he said.

Bridges, the lead plaintiff, told The Epoch Times that hospital workers have seen numerous patients who have suffered adverse reactions after getting a COVID-19 vaccine and a number of so-called breakthrough cases, or COVID-19 infections that take place in individuals who are fully vaccinated.

“So it doesn’t protect you from getting or spreading COVID, and the likelihood of a severe adverse reaction is happening a lot right now, so your risk versus the benefits just don’t weigh out. So we’re not comfortable because we don’t want to risk our lives or our future over getting this vaccine that doesn’t even work,” she said.

Federal authorities say that based on clinical trial data, the three vaccines authorized for emergency use in the United States are effective in preventing COVID-19 infection, but that a small percentage of people getting the vaccines have suffered adverse events, including blood clots and heart inflammation.

Bridges also pointed to the growing body of research that indicates that people who have had COVID-19 enjoy natural immunity against the illness.

“Most of us have already had COVID, so this vaccine does absolutely no good because we already have our own antibodies for it,” she said.
