Ghislaine Maxwell Trial

Updated: Jan 12, 2022

I wrote about the third of the three says, with a link to US Senate Judiciary Q&A, here:

Replying to @innercitypress

Was the three day hiatus in DC a sign? A signal from higher ups? A back scratching Kumbaya? Enquiring minds want to know….

US v. #GhislaineMaxwell jury notes &, of course, any verdict. But there's been radio silence from the jury today as they deliberate. I've run to the Magistrates Court & covered a case, and submitted Qs to UN

I wish. I have been here since 9 am, like the jury. But they have not passed a single note, in five 1/2 hours, to Judge Nathan asking for more information. There's a range of speculation, but not movement at all. I remain on alert - watch this feed.

Any Update on Ghislaines Trial?

There's no sentence date unless and until there is a guilty verdict. While I'd rather be live tweeting jury notes & arguments than be speculating, during this lull I've mulled whether, *if* there were a mistrial, #GhislaineMaxwell might ask for bail. #pundits

Replying to @innercitypress

Do we know what day this witch will hopefully be sent to prision.

Oh, I know. I was just mulling that, if even 1 juror triggered a mistrial, Maxwell'd be sure to argue that the "strength of the evidence" factor to keep her detained got weaker. Lev Parnas, for example, was convicted & has a 2d trial but is still free

Replying to @innercitypress

Maxwell faces a second perjury trial.

In #MaxwellJuryWatch, now after 6 1/2 hours Judge Nathan's courtroom deputy is in Courtroom 318. We'll start a thread when it becomes clear there is something to report. Watch this feed

OK - in US v. #GhislaineMaxwell jury deliberation, Judge Nathan just took the bench after 6+ hours. She says she will send in a note asking the jurors if they want to come in and deliberate more tomorrow Dec 23. Inner City Press will live tweet - thread below

Ghislaine Maxwell has been brought out to the courtroom and is sitting at the defense table. Her official lawyer Bobbi Sternheim is back speaking to the front row of the gallery - where Leah Saffian is

Jury has a note: "May we please have the following testimonies in a binder: Kate. Jane ["something else written next to it," Judge Nathan says, "I don't know if they are asking for another copy"]

Judge Nathan says something has been crossed out on the note. Lawyers laugh. Judge Nathan: I guess they are asking for another copy [of Jane]. Also, they want Kate & Juan" [Alessi] Judge Nathan: I believe the response [about deliberating tomorrow Dec 23] is coming

Yesterday the jury asked for testimony of Jane, Annie and Carolyn - and not Kate. Today, Kate and Juan Alessi.

Replying to @innercitypress

Didn't think they could use Kate's?

Judge Nathan: The response [on deliberating tomorrow] is No, thank you. [So it will break for four days - caused by earlier three day break? Stories later.]

Judge Nathan: So I'll see everyone at 4:25 [the jury wants to leave at 4:30, and not deliberate tomorrow] Soon podcast and stories on http://InnerCityPress.com

Podcast of Dec 22-1: #GhislainrMaxwell jury wants Kate & Alessi testimony, break to Dec 27, UN censors Press that asks about Terramar & Epstein UN Fellowship, UN rapes

Now 4:25 pm. Judge Nathan: Bring in the jurors. [Interim story:

All rise! Judge Nathan: Please be seated. Alright. You declined my invitation to deliberate tomorrow. We will resume Monday at 9 am. Same instructions. Please stay safe over the long weekend. I need all of you here and healthy on Monday.

Judge Nathan: The court is going to announce new restrictions on Monday, N-95 masks to get into the courthouse. Over the weekend, no consumption of any media of any kind. If any issues arise, regarding COVID contact Ms. Williams. Happy holiday.

Judge Nathan (to lawyers) - Anything? No. The masking rules will come out - we'll have supplies. I need most of you back here on Monday. See you Monday. One more story then out to Foley Square for live stream. Watch this feed.

#Breaking: Jury in US v. #GhislaineMaxwell has not reached a verdict on Dec 22, now breaks until Dec 27 with instruction to not consume any media. They are getting testimony of Kate & Epstein staffer Alessi. Inner City Press live tweeted:

#MaximumMaxwell: In US v #GhislaineMaxwell Trial, Now Jury Wants Kate & Alessi Testimony and Will Break Until Dec 27, Judge Nathan's Break & COVID Instructions - story:

Judge Nathan had told the jurors at the beginning of teh case that they would have December 23 and 24 off. Then there were 3 days of the trial canceled as she went to DC to pursue nomination to the 2d Circuit. So she asked if they'd do the 23rd. Nope...

Replying to @innercitypress

since when do jury's decide how long they deliberate ? and get to just go home at whim

Inner City Press before the trial began, & twice since, asked that at least a public listen-only call-in line be provided, as it had been earlier in the case & is in DDC & other SDNY cases, amid COVID. No, was the answer. Now COVID is further restricting access.

Replying to @innercitypress

That this trial is being done in secret is unacceptable in the US. WTF are we living?

Maybe. Also: a reminder that this case is not only about Ghislaine Maxwell and four survivors, but about other reported perpetrators, for example here Prince Andrew. There are many more, as I've asked about at the UN until they threw me out

Click bait photo

My point was and is, if COVID and court / travel restrictions make it more difficult for the public to access the courthouse for the trial, they should have a call-in line for public access. It's done all over the country. But not in this trial.

Replying to @innercitypress

Curious how Covid could restrict phone line access? There must be a new variant that travels wirelessly. Thanks for all you're trying to do.

I live-tweeted as much as it as I could, as fast as I could

Replying to @innercitypress

Post the Alessi testimony.
